Samira started at S-NET in 2016, when she transitioned from the manufacturing industry into a fast-paced, hi-tech environment. Read on to find out what makes her tick.
What is your educational background?
I earned my Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Accounting degrees at Northeastern Illinois University here in Chicago. I am also planning to earn my CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license.
What made you choose this career path?
The answer is simple, I have always loved math and was good with numbers, so accounting was a natural fit.
Where did you work before starting at S-NET?
My professional background was mostly in the manufacturing industry. I worked at Peerless of America and later at Eclipse Lighting for a number of years.
What are your primary responsibilities at S-NET?
I handle finances as a Staff Accountan
What do you enjoy most about your work?
What I enjoy most is when debits match credits! (Laughs.) My work is measured by precision, so seeing perfectly matching numbers in our monthly/yearly close is when I know that I have done my job well.
What are the most challenging aspects of your work?
Closing a month or a year would definitely be on top of my list. Our team’s main goal during the closing period is to reconcile everything and you have to be very detail oriented and accurate to accomplish it.
Do you interact with clients?
I interact with our clients throughout each day, and I really like this part of my job. I ensure that their financial questions, concerns and needs are addressed. I handle everything from billing questions and helping them make payments over the phone to handling our Bill Center and answering questions about the status of an account. The clear sense of satisfaction in a client’s voice or email after I have helped them gives me great joy. I really do put clients first, so being able to help them is very satisfying.
Has S-NET helped you grow as a professional?
Working at S-Net has really helped me grow tremendously. During my time here, I learned a lot about finances in the telecommunications business. Now that tax season is approaching, I am very excited about gaining a deeper understanding of taxation in this industry.
What do you enjoy the most about working here?
I would have to say the people. I love working with our clients, I have the best co-workers, and our top management is the most approachable, friendly and professional I have ever worked with in my career. Coming to work each day feels less like coming to work, and more like spending time with my second family.
How do you unwind after a long, tough day?
I love teas. I truly believe that the best way to relax after a long day is to have a cup of Hibiscus tea with honey.
How do you like to spend your free time?
My second biggest passion – after numbers, of course – is reading. I also like to watch old movies. My two daughters are my life, so I take advantage of any chance I have to spend time with them.
What exciting plans are you looking forward to?
I can’t wait to pass a CPA exam. But it has been made more difficult to pass recently.
What is one thing most of your coworkers and clients don’t know about you?
Hmm, let me think. I do not have favorite color, like most people do. And my favorite flower is Peony.
